Beautiful and historic Stoughton! Located on the scenic Yahara River just 15 miles South of Madison. Founded in 1847, the City of Stoughton is known for its annual Syttende Mai Celebration in May as well as being the birthplace of the coffee break.
Stoughton is a beautiful community with its many historic neighborhoods and its gorgeous historic downtown which boasts one of the few remaining second-story theaters in the Midwest – the beautifully restored Stoughton Opera House. This opera house hosts over 70 performances each year, with a wide range of acts from local to international, making it a must-see for anyone who visits Stoughton.
The Syttende Mai is Stoughton’s biggest festival of the year. This is a celebration of the Norwegian Constitution Day and is celebrated throughout the month of May. During this time there are many different events for residents to participate in, along with two different parades during the month.
